Definition of ROM

Read Only Memory (ROM)


ROM is "built-in" computer memory also known as firmware.It consists of small chip located near CPU on the motherboard.It is read only memory i.e.user can only read the instructions but cannot write into it.ROM is non-volatile in nature i.e. data does not get erased when the computer's power is switched off.
The instruction stored in it are permanent in the nature and usually designed by the manufacturer of the computer.
